The Perfect Manicure: 3 Steps for a Professional Result

Want to elevate your manicure but don’t have the time or budget to get it done professionally? With Looky Nails polishes, you have a solution designed for both beginners and advanced users who value creativity and simplicity.

In three easy steps, you can achieve dream nails, whether you're in a rush or ready to create more detailed designs. This guide walks you through each step for a salon-worthy result, while also helping you avoid mistakes that compromise longevity.

What you need for your manicure

Before you start, make sure you have the necessary tools to create your design in the comfort of your home.

  • Nail preparation accessories: acetone, cuticle pusher, nail file.
  • Primer or Protein Bond: a layer that prepares the nail without damaging it.
  • Base Coat: We recommend Looky's Rubber Base #22 Voile by Looky.
  • Color polish (one or more colors): We will use Gel Polish 3 in 1 #500 Douce in this guide.
  • Sealing polish: Use Looky's Gloss Finish Gel for an optimal result.
  • LED/UV Lamp: tool that allows you to dry nails quickly and evenly.

Before step 1: nail cleaning and preparation

Before you even paint your nails, make sure to clean and prepare them thoroughly. If necessary, remove your old gel polish using an acetone-based product, such as Looky Miracle Remover which removes the color in less than five minutes.

Using a cuticle pusher, gently push back the dead skin at the base of the nail. Then, use a file to shape them as desired, and then a buffer to smooth the surface. You can also use a primer to eliminate natural oils, prevent premature peeling of the polish, and strengthen your nails.

Once this step is complete and your materials are ready, you can proceed to creating a successful manicure.

Step 1: Applying Rubber Base #22 Veiled for a perfect base

The first step is to form a solid base before applying the color, in order to create a smoother and more uniform finish.

Apply a thin layer of base to camouflage imperfections, then cure it under a LED/UV lamp for 60 seconds (or as recommended by the product). Repeat for the desired number of coats.

Looky's Rubber Base provides a flexible and supple texture that conforms to your nail without making it stiff. It extends the wear of the 3-in-1 Gel Polish while protecting natural nails, especially if they are fragile or brittle.

This base can also be worn alone. It is normal for it to leave a sticky layer after curing. Use a top coat, then cure under the lamp for the final look.

Once the result is to your liking, you can move on to the next step.

Step 2: Applying 3-in-1 Gel Polish for long-lasting color

After choosing your color, such as Looky's 3-in-1 Gel Polish #500 Douce, apply a very thin coat away from the cuticles, and cure it for 60 seconds under the LED/UV lamp. Repeat this step until the desired intensity is achieved.

Did you know you could simplify these steps by using the 3-in-1 Gel Polish? After preparation, simply apply a coat and cure it under the lamp.

Available in a variety of suitable colors, it's perfect for those seeking a quick manicure. It can last up to a week when properly applied. For a two-week duration, we recommend using the Rubber Base and Top Coat Gel Polish.

For an even shinier look and better hold, the base and top coat make all the difference.

Step 3: Sealing with Glossy Top Coat Gel for a dazzling result

This is the final step for a perfect manicure! The top coat seals each layer and provides a long-lasting result.

At Looky, the 3-in-1 Gel Top Coat is available in three finishes: Matte, Glossy, and Ultra Glossy. Each option provides a different result, while keeping your design intact longer.

Apply a thin coat and cure for 60 seconds under the LED/UV lamp, making sure to cover the entire nail surface, right to the tip.

To remove your polish and create a new design, use the Looky Miracle Remover. Apply it to the nail like a polish, then leave it on for three minutes. Then, easily peel off the gel with a peel-off tool. This product helps protect your nails for your next application.

The traps to avoid for a perfect manicure

To give yourself a long-lasting professional look, here are some mistakes to avoid:

1. Applying too thick layers

Applying too much polish prevents even drying under the LED/UV lamp. Too thick layers can lead to bubbles, improper curing, and premature peeling.

2. Forgetting to seal the nail tip

The nail tip is the most fragile area. Make sure to cover it well and cure it to prevent it from peeling quickly.

3. Not degreasing nails before application

Without cleaning, natural oils and dust from filing create a barrier that prevents the gel from adhering to the nail, which affects its hold.

4. Insufficient curing time

It is important to follow the curing guidelines for the LED/UV lamp to achieve a completely dry and solid result.

FAQ

How long does a gel manicure last?

If properly applied with a base coat, color, and top coat, a gel manicure lasts for about two weeks. Used alone, the 3-in-1 Gel Polish can last up to one week.

How to remove gel polish without damaging your nails?

The right tools, such as a file, acetone or a specialized remover like Looky Nails' Miracle Remover, cotton pads, aluminum foil, and nourishing oil allow you to remove gel without damaging the nail. It's better to dissolve it than to pull it off.

Rubber Base or classic Gel Base: what's the difference?

Rubber Base is thicker and more flexible, ideal for fragile nails. Classic gel base is thinner and better suited for stronger natural nails.
